the story of me
i was born in 1979 in the rainy north of england and spent my early childhood on various beaches and heaths in england and wales. moving to austria at the beginning of the 90s – a decade of music and clothing most of us are rather embarrassed by – allowed me to learn to ski and to speak german. after graduating from school, i headed off to innsbruck to immerse myself in medicine and tyrolean culture. due to changing my perspectives to include computers, i spent the better part of 10 years living in a concrete cage, before deciding that photography is a larger part of my life than expected.
my photography strives to be clean and elegant, yet still capturing the essence of the reality i wish to show. recently my main body of work has been portraiture and i love working with people to present them and their environment in the best way possible. i also enjoy documenting events and cannot resist the beauty of architecture or the satisfaction in creating a perfect rendering of a product after tinkering in the studio.
having always been fascinated by cameras and the magical technology between the click of the shutter and the wonder at seeing the finished picture, i enjoy savouring the moments between taking a photo and presenting the final image. digital photography offers the forbidden fruit of creating a perfect image after the fact, but i prefer to get it right in the camera; so much so that my personal projects rotate around chemical film and manually operated cameras of all sizes.
simon bailey photography was founded in 2012 and i look forward to working with you to fulfil all your photographic needs.
