real picture of my bike
this is a real picture of my bike rather than one from the online catalogue. tom and i went shopping and took his bike into the chop shop to get it fixed, and then went for a comfortable shandy before i headed home by bike (testing out my new bright yellow wind vest) and tom by bus.
i’m enjoying my bike, since i got it on monday have now done > 117kms. couldn’t go this weekend because of bad weather. don’t you just love spring? more bad news: my normal everyday bike (which i’ve only had for about 3 weeks) has got a flat and normal nuts to take the wheels off rather than quick-bolts. :/ talk about stupid. well, i’ll get that fixed tomorrow and take the fast bike to work instead.
which will be fun – on thursday i dropped one of the guys from deri on his cool mountain bike by doing 42km/h on the flat. he tried to drop me coming off the traffic lights about 600m from the office so i decided to see what sprinting is like on the racing bike and easily left him standing. i was surprised that he turned up not far behind me at the office – breathing like a steam train though. i hardly broke a sweat. good gear transmissions are fun.
eurosport really annoyed me this afternoon though. i wanted to watch the giro d’italia on tv, and eurosport were going to show it at 15:45 after the wta (women’s tennis) tournament final in berlin. needless to say the final went into 3 sets, with both of the girls keeping up with each other – one game lasted about 25 minutes before one of them could break out of deuce and win the advantage. i think there is no sport more boring to watch than women’s tennis if you’re waiting for the match to finish. needless to say, the tennis match didn’t finish until after the giro stage had finished (i managed to catch the end on rai sport [italian sport channel]) but couldn’t really understand a word of what they were gibbering. and then i fell asleep during the eurosport summary of the race highlights.
talk about a wasted afternoon. ah, well nothing to be done about it – ivan basso won the stage easily with a great break over the past 3kms and is now in the pink jersey (which doesn’t really look pink to me, but that’s colourblind for you).
anyway, now off for the evening. see what takes my fancy, such as tidying up or maybe not.
